Wipe off the dust and move on!

It seemed like everything was an argument with Jerry. It infuriated Robin to see him challenge her on every experience she shared. Jerry enjoyed bantering back and forth. Robin felt mocked. Have you ever shared Jesus with someone who doesn’t want to know Him?

When I was first saved there were more people in my life that didn’t believe in Christ than those that did. I heard everything from “that sounds like a cult” to “I guess you’re just one of those people that has to believe in a false god to be able to manage daily life.” My world transformed with Jesus as my Savior. Not all of it was joyful. I love that God addresses this in His Word. In fact, if you say that you are a Christian and you have never experienced the pain of mockery from the world, you may want to ask yourself ‘why’ (John 15:18-19).

As Jesus sent out seventy of His followers with a heavenly message (Luke 10), He told them plainly that they would be “lambs among wolves” (Luke 10:3). Sounds dangerous. Living the way Jesus commands is not for the weak at heart. If you are feeling beat down by those that think you’re crazy, be encouraged in knowing that your name is written in Heaven (Luke 10:20).

In this account of evangelism, Jesus instructs His followers, “But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you.'” (Luke 10:10-11) This may seem harsh to some, yet it makes sense. Christ doesn’t put His followers in a position of begging for agreement from the world. If folks say ‘no’, move on. Don’t let the dust cling to you! Shake it off, step out, and share Him with the lost.

There are many more out there that don’t want to pick a fight and really need to hear the gospel. Remember that your reward is not of this world, it is eternal. You have an audience of One, the Lord Jesus Christ. He says, “Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.‘” (John 15:20) May God bless you when the dust swirls!
